Councilmember Omar Torres joined The Core Companies and Republic Urban Properties for a community event to gather input on the name of the Tamien Station Development. Thank you to everyone in the local community who showed up and provided valuable input.
Local leaders, housing partners, and community members helped the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority and The Core Companies celebrate the groundbreaking of 135 affordable family-oriented apartments at Tamien Station.
In partnership with the Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority, The Core Companies held a community meeting to discuss the project, neighborhood impacts, and construction timeline prior to breaking ground in 2023.
After several years of collaboration with and feedback from the City of San Jose and the community, we are excited to break ground on Tamien Station in 2023. Our first task is to clear and grade the project site, shortly followed by the installation of utilities such as water, sewer and storm drains, telephone, and electricity through September 2023. Vertical construction will continue for the next two years with phase one construction expected to be completed in July 2025.
Tamien Station is an upcoming housing development that will create a community of affordable and market-rate housing immediately adjacent to the Tamien Caltrain and VTA Light Rail stations. Located at 1221 Lick Avenue, about ten blocks from downtown San Jose, the project will build 555 units, 135 of which will be affordable, with up to 3,000 square feet of commercial retail space.
Construction began in July 2023, with a formal groundbreaking expected to occur in September 2023. Construction is expected to be completed in July 2025.
No, the Tamien VTA Light Rail and Caltrain stations will remain open during construction.
The affordable housing portion of the project is being developed by The Core Companies in partnership with Valley Transportation Authority.
Now that construction has begun, you can visit our website for the latest updates on the project. Additionally, transit riders and interested parties can sign up for email updates or follow us on social media.
Existing parking will largely remain open during the beginning of construction. We will utilize a portion of the east side parking lot, however, VTA is confident there will be ample parking for daily transit riders, with both the east and west side lots remaining open. If parking availability changes, we will provide advance notice. Please refer to the project website for any updates on parking.
